structure and function impact
The structure, location, and function of each organelle is meant to optimize efficiency and performance of the eukaryotic cell. Each metabolic process of the cell depends on certain organelles, not only to execute their assigned duty, but to also execute this duty in a certain sequence to maximize efficiency.
The observance of the structures and their functions allow researchers to experiment with cells in an educated and methodical manner. Researchers can explore the unknown, and possibly transcendental, capabilities of eukaryotic cells by manipulating organelle structure, overall cell structure, and the processes that occur in these components. This opens a window of opportunity for innovation and discovery as the experimental manipulations of eukaryotic cells are endless.
Cell structures and functions are also the targets of disease. The states of these cells are controlled by the viruses or foreign pathogens that enter an organism and pass through the cell membrane. Current cell structures and defense mechanisms do not always have the ability to prevent disease from entering the cell. When this does happen, cell processes are interrupted, cell organelles are inhibited and rendered inactive, and ultimately the cells are sometimes even lysed. Eukaryotic cells in the diseased state destroy the foundation that builds tissues, organs, organ systems, and organisms.
These complex structures contribute to life and the efficiency at which bodily functions are performed and advanced. As time passes, evolution may eventually improve current organelle processes and cell structure, or human research and modification may contribute to an evolved and improved cell.
